Route To Home

Route to Home (RTH) is an Intelligent Number Translation solution created for the mobile operator. Route to Home is an application that interacts with the visited MSC for roaming customers to force-route the customer's call back into the home network. Because the home network supports the required call control functionality, once the call goes through a GMSC in the home network normal services can then be provided.

When a customer is roaming they do not enjoy nearly the same level of services they are accustomed to in their home networks. The services are simply not available. The deployment of RTH allows operators to provide services normally available to the customer within their home network, services such as prepay, or to guarantee the CLI of the calling party when roaming.

When customers are roaming in another network and the visited MSC does not support all of the customer's home network capabilities (for example, special billing via CAMEL FCI messages), the RTH service is triggered. This permits the customer to have a similar user experience while traveling (roaming) as compared with their home network. For example, in some situations the calling party number may get lost as calls are routed via an international carrier. This may cause services such as voicemail access to "break." RTH provides a CLI guarantee for customers who need this feature at all times—even when roaming.
